I was browsing YouTube tonight and came across this clip, which is the 2nd most popular YouTube video ever. Aparently the guitar bit is "confirmed" to be real and I must say it rocks, real or not.

Have any other great clips to add? I know Grizlas has some for sure.

very nice, especially that first one. Love what he's done to that vivaldi(?) piece.

The second one is nice too though. Shows some of the many techniques there are to master on the acoustic. Afaik, there is only one guy who masters them all and that's Tommy Emmanuel. The king of the western acoustic smiley He uses every technique I've ever heard of, be that flamenco or whatever.

Here's an example. There is no backing track - its all him.

Oh yeah, here's another TE vid that I think is spectacular. Did anyone say harmonics?

And this one; classical gas raped smiley absolutely fantastic

"Emmanuel's compositional skills tend to take a back-seat to his barnstorming technique, but many of his own tunes are absolute gems.

That fearsome technique has led many observers, world-class players such as Chet Atkins and Eric Clapton included, to call him the best in the world.

His current label boss, the Grammy-winning guitarist and ex-Frank Zappa associate Steve Vai, knows a thing or two about these things and he summarised it succinctly: "It's always funny to me when people use the phrase `best guitarist in the world'. There are too many variables such as technique, emotional investment in the notes, etc. But if I had to pick one, it would be Tommy Emmanuel. Watching him perform can be a study in artistic and virtuosic human achievement."

Johann Pachelbel must be spinning in his grave now. Seen that clip once before, and I actually intended to add exactly that clip when I first saw this thread. I think it's brilliant, even though he is a bit off somewhere.

Take Pachelbel's 300 year old composition, a drum machine, a distorted guitar, and obviously a brilliant and creative guitar player, and you beat the crap out of Coolio's C U when U get there, which also is a cover of Pachelbel's Canin in D.

Tommy Emmanuel, never heard of him before. How does he do all that with just one guitar? smiley

That last one is not really to my taste, although I certainly appreciate the skill involved. That type of malmsteen speed has never appealed to me for some reason. It sounds more computer generated I think, with little-to-no variation in the composition. It's difficult to play like that nonetheless smiley

No such thread can be complete without some clips from the great Paco De Lucia:

And some more Paco De Lucia, here doing a buleria (CAM VERSION, since it's really hard to find anything where he isn't accompanied):

And how about we end with one where he plays together with two other world greats, Al Di Meola and John Mclaughlin:

.... but unfortunately youtube crashed on me, so It'll have to wait.

ah here we go:

Well Van Halen has got some skills, he is not at all my favourite, but I think Eruption is quite good. Altough that genre lacks a bit of feel, and is too much concentrated on speed, so guess we agree on that.

And now for something completely different.

Was reading up on Tommy Emmanuel and found out that Chet Atkins had been a big influence, then came upon this video of Chet Atkins...this looks quite simple...but you try and see smiley

Something wrong with the last two links? they won't load for me.

anyways, Jake doesn't dissapoint. Without knowing the first thing about Ukulele playing I'd say he has some serious skills
