I think it would be interesting to know what our members are reading. Maybe You've read a nice book that you would like to recommend or discuss? To serve this purpose, I have created this thread.
Please be so kind as to follow some loose formatting guidelines:

facts: name, author, language, number of pagers, etc.

review: What you thought of the book (in your own words, no copy/pasting from the net)

Links: reviews, bookstores, further information

Picture : Please attach a picture of the book.

Name: The lost Symbol
Author: Dan Brown
pages: 509
Language: English

Review:

I finished reading this one a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised. Having read all his books, I think this authors' strength lies in his fascination with mythology and symbolism. The books Deception point and Digital fortress are, in my view, clearly inferior to Davinci Code, Angels & demons - and now The lost Symbol.

His newest creation is extremely fast paced - even more so than Davinci Code - and has the same setup: weird bad guy, treasure hunt, science, puzzles, history, architechture and art. This time, the city is Washington D.C. and apparently this city is so ridden with mythology that it functions just as well as Rome and Paris did in his earlier works. As was the case with Davinci, I got myself into a reading-frenzy and finished the book in 2 days. If you liked Davinci, I can warmly recommend spending some time leafing through this one.

Name: Revelation Space
Author: Alastair Reynolds
pages: 560
Language: English
Genre: Science Fiction/Space Opera

Review:

This must be the most inventive novel I've ever come across. The plot itself is increasingly complex and far-reaching bordering on the fantastic, yet cohesive enough logically to keep the reader immersed. This novel has all I could ever wish for in a space opera and the best part is, that this is the first book of a whole series! The style of writing, while superb, migth be a bit heavy for some, but if you don't mind adding the occasional word to your vocabulary, it is no hindrance to speak of.
Incidentally, I've come to think that someone else of us has already read this book, because I seem to remember vaguely having seen the book cover somewhere before. Maybe Yutani? Anyways, if you fancy some science fiction that is dense, dark and seriously creative, you should give this book a try.

It is not on my bookshelf, but may find its place there when this semester is over and done with.
