Excellent cover of an excellent song. The Genesis original has always been one of my favourite songs. The original video was also fantastic featuring Ronnie, Maggie and Gorbie as spitting image puppets - ronnie actually pushes the button. Cool animation - reminds me of Todd Macfarlaine - have to check it out.

Had a look to see if it was Todd Macfarlaine (yes)... and came across a top 11 animated videos. Pretty interesting list - a few more obvious choices are missing.

And one about how not to do it.

I think the Faroes are featured in the top 1 video of Laluu's list... Fantastic video, by the way, though I wouldn't put it as #1.

jogvanth's video features music by In Flames, a swedish death metal band which usually doesn't suck as bad as that video makes it seem. The animation is from some anime, and it has been edited along with the music into this abomination. I abhor these fan-made music videos because they're generally unbelievably crappy. I guess the good thing about amateur films and music videos is that it makes us appreciate good directing, editing and producing more.

"King of Pain"

Great original and an even better cover. Couldn't find another video so you'll have to do with del toro.

I didn't think that worked. They all sang well (I'm still not sure about the Crash Test Dummies singer/Garth Brooks clone), but four completely different voices made it seem completely un-heartfelt.

Oh, and it's "Hallelujah" not "Hallelyjah", and it's definitely not the "Shrek song".

Well I tend to agree, the first and last singer were very good, but when they all sang together didn't do anything for me. And "Hallelyjah"???

I did like that Alejandro fellow (perkarin) was just something special a voice that normaly isn't used haven't listen to anything else by him.

Jeff Buckley's version always been special just little things that make the diffrence. Like the guitar in the start makes me think of metallica Master of Puppets era and pullingh teeth. Maybe its just my mind thats gone wandering again.

Hate to say this, but DT know their shit and they do this rock classic justice. Petrucci has a kickass solo on 4:30, and I bloody hate the singer.

Dream Theater never been a fan but they have some ok songs. As for live preformances they kick ass. I've listend to Cemetary Gates, Master of Puppets, Orion and Money they all rock. Perfectly played with no down sides but.. . and this is a big BUT the friggin singer can't do it. He can't do Cemetary Gates since he can't go low. Master of Puppets he should be shot for the attempt. Money he does ok'ish not good not bad just ok.. the song lacks the feel Pink Floyd give it.

Conclusion DT know how too handle their instruments with a crappy cover singer.

Totally agree Boddin, they play better than Metallica live, although that ain't saying much. But on the other side they could use a bit more feel, sometimes they are a bit robotic in their playing. And Master of Puppets has to be the rape of the century singing wise, he's lucky to have escaped alive.

I never said they played better then Metallica live so I can't agree on that. I'd rather say they are one of the best heavy bands you can see/hear live.

How does one deifne how good a band plays live? Most people say its how the music sounds (quality) this however is wrong. Quality of the sound belongs to the roadies or crew or even the soundman. So basicly if a band plays without mistakes it should be great live band.
Then there is all the jamming and covers and so on that makes most concerts remeberable.
I've seen a live S&M on the TV and omg it was good. Ofcourse they had probably rehersed for ages since they played with San Francisco philharminoca orchestra. And I bet there wasn't saved any money on perfect sound preformance.

Other bands that are great live as rumor has it.

Toto, Rammstein, Slipknot and Phish Norlander mentioned them back in late 90's and I've heard other music lovers mention them as to be the best/greatest live band.

I have heard quite a number of good live bands. These are some of my favourites: Iron Maiden (fantastic ability to get the crowd going), Metallica, Rammstein (brilliant showmanship), Muse, Massive Attack, Machine Head, Tool.

One of my all-time favourites, though is a Japanese band that I've seen twice. They're a crazy 3-piece band with a drummer who wears nothing but a white tennis-sock, and tends to hit his head more than he hits the skins of the drums. They're called Electric Eel Shock, and although they don't normally do covers, here's their take on Black Sabbath's Iron Man

Can't get the embedding thing to work, so here's the url too:

IMO, the DT version of Highway Star would have been instantly forgettable, if it wasn't for the fact that Petrucci is a brilliant guitarist. I still prefer the original. But as for Hallelujah I think Jeff Buckley perhaps just edges out Leonard Cohen.

edit: fixed your embedding, Norl

Well I haven't been to any of their concerts if that's what you mean. But I have seen some live videos on vhs (blame late technology not me) with them, and various footage here and there. From what I have seen they are not a particulary good live band, some of it is ok'ish I guess and some of it is embarrisingly(making up words as we go along) bad. I mean Kirk Hammett he is as bad at playing on that banjo of his, as that singer of DT's is at singing. But I'm not saying that they haven't wrote any good music. smiley

I do. So I'll just say it again... Dream Theater plays better than Metallica live.

Not a lot of people take on Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, but this girl can sing and the band is phenomenal.
