Today, exactly 100 years ago, the Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip. 1 month later, on the 28th of July 1914, the Great War broke out.

Across the internet there will be many articles published over the next month. Some will focus on the bigger picture and grand strategic considerations that fueled the march to war, others will focus on personal tragedies and stories of heroism.

I just wanted to share this picture, which has always fascinated me (click on more to see it :)
