I can warmly recommend the documentary series, Human Planet. There are eight episodes in all, exploring how people cope in extreme places.
As a new feature the BBC have really branched out when doing a series of this kind. After each episode there is a short behind-the-scenes look at the most difficult shot of the episode. I am glad to see that they also utilize still photography as well as their webpage to promote and expand on their already magnificent documentary work.
I missed the ubiquitous Attenborough narrating, but John Hurt does a good job. They should have flown him in for a shot or two in each episode, so he could sit whispering close to some rare creature. Alas, I guess that would just be copying the master
