I understand what you're saying.
However, I think the seeming repetition was to emphasise how pervasive this whole culture is (call it Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whatever).
The people who should be protecting her are failing her, because they too seem to have been corrupted. Her brother, her classmate - even her teacher and her mother. Her mother has accepted that her daughter's best shot at a good life is to become an object of desire and find a rich husband/sugardaddy.
