He is surprisingly articulate, in so far that I had assumed he'd talk in soundbites and tired cliches. One thing that really hits home is his statement (paraphrased), "Put yourself in my shoes, earning $200,000 a year and living in paradise. What would it take for you to give that up?"
It will be interesting how this all plays out. By going to Hong Kong he's gambling at the absolute highest stakes. Hinting to having had access to all US foreign intelligence assets and covers I'm sure the MSS will make damn sure the CIA won't just snatch him. Furthermore it might put some pressure on the "One Country, Two Systems" with regards to Hong Kong.
Politically he was a democrat, but turns out he became a libertarian, and gave donations to Ron Paul in the 2012 election cycle. This might be his ticket out of this as he has a chance to garner some odd form of bipartisan support for his cause célèbre in the US, even if the generic republicans have already readied the pitchforks.
Finally: It would be fun to see China accepting dissidents from the US... nobody in their wildest imagination would have predicted that 20 years ago
Side note: The guy has the same birthday as me (though not year obviously)

Now he's in the care of the FSB. Wikileaks chaperoned him to Moscow, with a third nation as the final destination.
