Best Island Destination: The Faroes
News by vuzmanNational Geographic Traveler has rated the Faroes as the best island destination.

111 islands around the world were rated by a panel of 522 experts in sustainable tourism and destination stewardship based on how well the integrity of the islands was holding up; how unspoilt they were by tourism, the native population, etc.

One panelist: "The future could bring severe social and environmental impacts, but the Faroese are aware of the dangers and are debating solutions."

The ‘Good Germans’ Among Us
News by Norlander “BUSH lies” doesn’t cut it anymore. It’s time to confront the darker reality that we are lying to ourselves.

With these words Frank Rich starts his powerful editorial in today's New York Times.

Finally some Americans are starting to wake up of the slumber. It's not just Bush Lied and Rumsfeld's to blame. Every Joe Public is to blame. It's their fault that this mess of Gestapo tactics is allowed to continue year after year, shielded by a wall of semantics. And it's not just the American Joe Public. Many EU countries, including Denmark, also has troops in Iraq, allows rendition flights over it's territory. We're all to blame for not taking this seriously enough, to letting ourselves be lulled to sleep.

Read the editorial. It's a wake-up call for all of us.
Al Gore wins Nobel Peace Prize
News by vuzman

Al Gore and the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Nobel committee cited "their efforts to build up and disseminate knowledge about man-made climate change".

Gore, of course, is behind the Oscar-winning documentary blockbuster 'An Inconvenient Truth' while the IPCC is the top authority on global warming.

The Nobel committee highlighted the series of scientific reports issued over the last two decades by the IPCC, which comprises more than 2,000 leading climate change scientists. The reports had "created an ever-broader informed consensus about the connection between human activities and global warming".

Al Gore was praised as "probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted", through his lectures, films and books.

Al Gore said he was honoured: "This award is even more meaningful because I have the honour of sharing it" with the IPCC, he said - "whose members have worked tirelessly and selflessly for many years".

Al Gore will donate his half of the $1.5m prize money to the Alliance for Climate Protection.

For some reason only 2 photos the Brugge album now, something might have gotten lost over the years and transfers of hosts, etc.

I'm pretty sure we had more photo albums, like Bruges and Dubrovnik.
